Spilling the Tea on Contour Pillows We took a hard look at conventional contour pillows and found some surprising discoveries that weâll tell you all about.
In todayâs issue:
- 3 big problems with conventional contour pillows
- Some toxins commonly found in memory foam that everyone should be aware of
- Take 20% off any pillow of your choice!
The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
Contour pillows have gained popularity in recent years, and itâs for good reason. They offer a number of incredible benefits, like:
- Spinal alignment
- Relief from pain, soreness, and stiffness
- Support for your neck, head, and shoulder
But there are a handful of BIG problems with many of the conventional contour pillows out there.
- Theyâre not adjustable. Once you bought one, you were stuck with its shape and firmness.
- Theyâre synthetic. Most conventional contour pillows are made of materials like memory foam which could contain any number of potentially toxic chemicals. For example, diisocyanates are chemicals commonly used in memory foam that can irritate the mouth, nose, and eyes, and TDI, in particular, may be carcinogenic.
- Theyâre expensive! Despite being one shape and firmness and potentially packed with toxic chemicals, you could break the bank buying one!
When we started exploring the design of contour pillows at White Lotus Home a few years ago, we knew we had to create a solution to this problemâŠ
And thatâs precisely what we did.
A pillow designed with you in mind thatâs all-natural, completely adjustable, and even costs LESS than its competitorsâŠ
The KaPillowâs design is simple. Itâs a soft, organic cotton sateen casing, filled with our natural Kapok fiber with a half-seam in the center, creating a dip for your head, and leaving a lip on either side to support your neck.
Unlike typical contour pillows, we made our KaPillow easy to adjust because we know just how important it is for the firmness and shape to be just right.
To adjust your KaPillow, you can simply unzip the case and add or remove filling as you see fit until itâs perfect for you!
Ready to Kick Neck Pain and Toxic Chemicals to the Curb? Treat yourself to an all-natural contour pillow thatâs affordable, effective, and completely adjustable. You deserve it!

In the last 16 years of working at White Lotus Home, I am surprised by the number of people that prefer a Firm Mattress and choose our Organic Boulder Mattresses.
The Boulder is the firmest mattress we hand make in the USA, but only since 2007, not 1981 when White Lotus Home was established.
After taking over this great company in 2006, local customers practically begged me to make our already semi-firm mattresses even firmer. Their words were something like âIf you make it as firm as I need it, I will buy one for the entire familyâ and they eventually did and continued to tell their friends and family. Also, a cool company in Boulder Colorado had a similar request and our Boulder Mattress was born.
Our Boulder Mattresses are rolled up, vacuumed, and shipped all over the world now. Below are the most popular reasons why our Organic Cotton Boulder Style Mattress, was the best selling White Lotus Home Mattress in 2020.

Back doctors suggested trying a firm mattress.

âThis is the way I slept the best back in my countryâ

In need of more support due to a recent medical condition.

Many physically active clients report that their body feels better every morning.

Tired of sleeping on the floor...
Hannah C (Greendale, Wisconsin) November 30, 2020. Have been sleeping on it every night and we love it! We wanted a very firm mattress and this fits the bill. I would recommend not only this mattress but this company to anyone that needs a new mattress. The quality is clearly better than any mattress I've ever owned. It is handmade but very durable.
Francis J (Minneapolis, Minnesota) August 14, 2020. This mattress is nice and firm! Maybe we should have got the 8" instead of the 7" because sheets don't fit very tight and my partner does not like creases in the sheets, but thats on us. The mattress firmness level is awesome!
Andrea O (Virginia Beach, Virginia) March 25, 2020. We ordered this mattress for our son to move him out of a crib to a "big-boy" bed and he is stoked. I am excited because, like our daughter, I know that he is sleeping on a healthy mattress! Since *** all of our bedding (mattresses and pillows) has been purchased from White Lotus.
Tina G. March 04, 2020. This is my third mattress from White Lotus. I'm very pleased w/this mattress. I hadn't ordered the one wrapped in wool (w/in a cotton cover of course) before, cuz I was afraid it would bother my immune issues, but this time I did and it's perfect. They all come w/a slight odor from the natural materials, but it does dissipate over time. This mattress is very comfortable, yet very firm which I love. I highly recommend it if you like a firm mattress w/no flame retardants.
Maureen M December 15, 2018. I have many products from WHITE LOTUS and honestly, like them all! Am impressed with their philosophy of sleep and design! The Boulder mattress is the best mattress I have had, and have had many over the years. In an effort to achieve comfort related to scoliosis and MS mobility, I have tried many and conclude that the Boulder offers the most comfort, support.
Alora November 27, 2017. I really like this mattress. It is firm and really helped ease my back problems I was having with previous mattresses that were too soft. When I bought the mattress I paid a little extra for handles, which is incredibly helpful for rotating the mattresses and move in/move out.
Sam April 23, 2017. I love this mattress! It is very firm as described, super supportive; it also acts as a natural temperature regulator because of the wool and I don't get too hot or too cold sleeping on it. It just feels very comfortable and the way a bed should feel. I would highly recommend to anyone who likes a firm mattress!
Shelly December 15, 2018. We absolutely love this mattress. It is so supportive, and I love knowing that I am sleeping on a health-promoting bed.

As a continuation of the Mattress Pros & Cons! We would appreciate it if you share your own personal Mattress experience below!
It is where cotton gets its degree, GOTS-certified organic cotton is held to the highest standards for health and sustainability. The core of most of our mattress options are hand made of endless fluffy layers of 100% pesticide-free US-grown GOTS Certified organic cotton raised sustainably, from our farms to your bed. Pesticide and insecticide-free, 100% natural and biodegradable, safe for sensitive skin, firm, yet soft, consumes 91% less water to grow than regular cotton, and protects farmers from pesticide exposure.
What is Green Cotton?
A more affordable option to our organic cotton, our conventionally grown Green Cotton is grown in the United States â it just isnât certified organic. This more affordable material is slightly firmer than organic cotton, but the real beauty is in what it doesnât have: NO dyes, NO perfumes & NO flame retardants. Grown by farmers right here in the US, Green Cotton is a fabulous cost-saving material that doesnât put you in contact with harmful chemicals typically found in cotton.

The internet has coined parents who practice natural parenting crunchy, and we say embrace it. Being kind to people and planet while raising children is a challenging path to walk, and well, none of us would survive it if we didnât learn to laugh at ourselves along the way.
You Fly Past the Character Fruit Snacks in the Store
Youâre determined your kid isnât going to know anything but fruit dyed gummy snacks, and curse whoever decided to put those artificially colored atrocities right next to your favorite granola bars.
You Smell Your Kid to See If They Need a Bath
Crunchy parents know too much of a good thing can be bad, so they bathe on an as-needed basis. If they donât stink, let them be free!
You Keep Coconut Oil In the Kitchen. And the Bathroom. And the Babyâs Room.
Deep conditioner? Coconut oil. Diaper rash? Coconut oil. Best brownies youâve ever had? COCONUT OIL.
You Hate Running out of Cleaner (Because It Means You Have to Make More)
Crunchy parents know Clorox has nothing on vinegar and baking soda. They also know he who leaves the bottle with one spray left should have the decency to make the next batch.
*AHEM*
You Have More Essential Oils Than You Have Room For
Crunchy parents take their family to the doctor when necessary. Otherwise, theyâre consulting their local naturopath, because honey â thereâs an essential oil for that.
Losing the Amber Teething Necklace Is the Equivalent of Armageddon
Skeptics can say what they want â at this point, youâd do a rain dance if you thought it would help get your baby through teething. Must. Have. Backups.
You Measure Time You Have to Do Something in Time Between Nursing Sessions
New moms especially know, if it takes more than two hours, theyâll have to ask their tiny baby boss.
You Do Shots...of Apple Cider Vinegar
Who said your partying days were over when you had kids? Shooting apple cider vinegar is way more hardcore than tequila. And itâs great for your gut health.
You Collect Cloth Diapers Like Pokemon Cards
Crunchy moms know, it doesnât matter how many cloth diapers you have â if thereâs a Harry Potter fitted for sale anywhere at any time, it has your name on it.
You Boil Beets at Easter
You donât feed your kids artificial colors the rest of the year, why should you do it for the holidays? Sure itâs messy, sure your fingers are pink for days, but just look at those eggs!
Youâve (Uncomfortably) Made Wishlists for Kidsâ Birthdays
Itâs never fun to tell people who are already buying things for your kids that you have a preference as to what they buy. Unless you want another heap of plastic and noise at the holidays though, youâve learned to power through.
Youâre More Scared to Admit to Feeding Your Kids McDonaldâs Than You Are to Eating Your Placenta
Sure, weâve all been there â desperate days that call for quick and easy sustenance and a little sanity for mom. But youâd still rather talk about your placenta capsules than the fossilized remains of a Happy Meal on the floor of your car.
What crunchy parent thing do you do that cracks your family up? Tell us in the comments below!
